Free Document Shredding Event

Tax season is almost over and now is the time to get rid of those unwanted documents, bills and receipts that you don’t need to retain, especially if you are leaving for the summer!

The Arizona Crime Prevention Association is hosting a document shredding event .

Thank you to all that came out for our annual Fall Festival. We hope everyone had a great time and were able to meet new people within our wonderful community. The chili was wonderful and I think the judges had a hard time deciding which to pick. Thank you to all who brought food to share and helped set up and clean up.

We would like to thank the Boy Scouts of troop 956 for helping us set up and help run our booths and Preferred Communities for running the cotton candy machine for us. Also, Bobbi Randall for helping with planning and Amy Griner for taking pictures. We would also like to thank the following vendors Tina with Gold Canyon Candles, Brenda with her beautiful Blankets, Nancy with Word of mouth cookies, our neighbor with pumpkins from his farm in Queen Creek and Aaron with State Farm on Southern & Signal Butte.

We would also like to thank the following companies for the wonderful donations. Chick-fil-A Superstition Springs, Krispy-Kreme, McDonalds, Starbucks, Bahama Bucks, In-N-Out Burger, Village Inn, Chilis, The Golden Spoon, Little Caesars Pizza, Tina Gold Canyon Candles, and Word on Mouth Cookie Company.

Mesa Police Department Citizen Alert 10/14/2009

Armed Robbery

On 10-13-09 at approximately 1410 hours, the victim had exited the Augusta Ranch gated community onto S. Lansing when he was approached by two unknown black male suspects. Suspect #1 introduced himself as “K-T” from Chicago and asked the victim where he was from. Suspect #2 pulled out a black and silver handgun, held it in his right hand, and pointed it at the ground as Suspect #1 continued to speak with the victim. Suspect #1 grabbed the victim’s baseball hat and demanded his property. The victim complied and both suspects fled the area on foot.

The victim began to check the area for the suspects and located suspect #1 as he got into the front passenger seat of a black passenger vehicle. The vehicle was described as a black 90's model Honda or Acura with a spoiler. A partial AZ license was obtained on the suspect vehicle as possibly "AGE."

The suspects are described as the following:

Suspect #1: B/M, 20-25 YO, 6’00”/200 lbs, black hair, LSW blue shirt, introduced himself as “K-T” from Chicago

Suspect #2: B/M, 20-25 YO, 5’08” to 6’00”, black hair, LSW LA Raiders football jersey with number 18

HOA Meeting Minutes

Thank you to all the homeowners who came and participated in the HOA meeting held on August 27, 2009. We appreciate everyone who came and gave their input on matters for our neighborhood.

The following items were discussed at the meeting:

1. Gate Code – Individual Gate Codes – seem to be working fine. No issues were identified by homeowners or board members. The vendor code was given to all homeowners in attendance. This code is valid from 5am – 6pm and can be given to vendors (including, but not limited to UPS, FedEx, Repair Services, etc.) Since this is a public blog the code will not be posted on here. Please contact Preferred Communities or a member of the board for the code.

2. Pedestrian Gate on Pueblo was repaired and repainted. Vandalism has started again once school started. LeeAnn has contacted the Principal of the School, as the actions of the students waiting at the bus stop are the responsibility of the school. If the vandalism continues, they will move the bus stop.

3. CC&R / Rules enforcement – discussed the boards interpretation of the CC&Rs (see minutes from July 24th Meeting). A letter to homeowners will be mailed within the next week to identify the changes. These items will be included in the normal inspection starting with the 2nd inspection in September.

4. Social Events
   a. Social Event (Fall Festival) – will be held on October 24 in conjunction with GAIN to help bring in the Neighborhood watch into the mix. Dallan & Nate volunteered to spearhead the project, with LeeAnn’s assistance
   b. Garage Sale – November 7th.
   c. Korin to check on prices for 2 signs – want to know if the signs can be printed on both sides – one side “Garage Sale” the other side “HOA MEETING Tonight”

5. Landscaping Bids - 4 bids were provided. Current landscaper is charging $1905.00 per month. The other bids were right around that price: Desert Innovations $2000, IDT $1875, JT Landscaping $2100, Great Western - $1930.00. Dallan motioned to stay with current landscaper. Motion was seconded by Nate, unanimously approved.

6. Fire Lane/Fire Hydrant striping- bids were provided ranging from $157.00- $7200.00 depending on what they want done. Dallan motioned to table this issue. Motion seconded by Nate, unanimously passed. If a section near a fire hydrant or intersection needs to be painted, Nate & Dallan will do the manual labor.

7. Schedule Next Meeting : November 5, 2009 6:30 PM at the Fire Station

8. Homeowner Questions/Input:
   a. Light at the mailboxes
   b. Garbage can at the mailboxes
   c. Problems with birds nesting under the tiles on the roof
   d. Architectural approval – anything seen from public view or from neighboring properties must have architectural approval.

SECURE YOUR VEHICLE

Vehicles can be stolen from any place, at any time. A few simple precautions can deter would-be thieves.

Lock your doors and roll up the windows at all times when away from the vehicle.

Use a steering wheel lock.

Park in well-lit areas, if possible.

Never leave your vehicle running, even for a moment.

Don't leave the title and registration in your vehicle. Keep the title at home and carry the registration in your wallet or purse.

Remove all valuables (DVD player, MP3 player, camera, laptop, GPS, purse, wallet, guns) from the vehicle. If you can see ANY property in plain view, so can a thief.

Report any suspicious activity in or around vehicles to the Mesa Police at 480-644-2211.

More Burglaries in Our Neighborhood!!

Last week we had another burglary in La Fortina. One of our homeowners who parks his truck in the driveway had the spare tire stolen from under the truck – damage was also caused. It appears this happened during the night (June 25).

Please keep a look out and call 911 if you see any suspicious activity!!!

Also, there was another burglary Tuesday (June 30) in the community. This time the culprits entered a home on El Moro, while there were children upstairs in their bedrooms! The break in happened between 9-10am.

Thank goodness no one was hurt, but they did get away with a laptop.
This was reported by calling 911 and a police report was filed.

Please keep your doors and windows locked at all times.

If you’re wondering what can we do to stop the outrageous number of break –ins in our community – it might be time to seriously think about joining the Neighborhood Watch! The stronger influence Neighborhood Watch has in the community, the less burglaries and break ins occur.

July 4th Celebration moved to July 11th!!

Due to the number of La Fortina residents who will be out of town this weekend, the celebration has been postponed until July 11.

We will do the slip and slide on Saturday July 11th from 9am-12pm.

It will just be the slip and slide no program or food will be provided. Drinking water will be available.

Sunscreen, chairs and sunshades are highly recommended. Adults are welcome, in fact we may set up two slip and slides one for adults and one for smaller kids.

Burglary in La Fortina!!!

Last Friday (May 22, 2009) a home in the community was broken into. The intruders gained access to the home through the back gate, they tried to open the sliding glass doors and when that was unsuccessful they entered through an unlocked window.

Please be vigilant in keeping your doors, windows, garage and gates locked. Also, please keep an eye out for suspicious individuals in the neighborhood.

Cell Phone Message Scams

A new type of phishing scam is on the rise – the use of fraudulent text or voice messages to cell phones.

Here’s how it works: You receive a text or voice message on your cell phone saying “You have a new message from (telephone number)” or “This is an automated message from (name of bank); your ATM card has been suspended, please call (telephone number)."

When you call the telephone number you reach an automated system that asks you to enter your bank account number, PIN, credit card number, expiration date, or your Social Security Number.

The goal of this scam is to obtain your personal bank and credit card information. Your bank will NOT notify you of problems with your account by text message or e-mail. The best practice is to refrain from giving personal information over the telephone to unknown solicitors.

If you get an e-mail, voice or text message referencing your bank or credit card account do not reply or click on any links provided in the e-mail. Instead contact your bank using the telephone number or website listed on your billing statement.

If you have responded to this type of message or if you believe your account information may have been compromised, contact your financial institution immediately. You can also contact the Arizona Attorney General at 602-542-5763.

Vehicle Burglary

"I’m sorry, but it appears your auto policy doesn’t cover that." You could be hearing these words if you leave valuables in your vehicle!

Most auto insurance policies do not cover any personal items left in a vehicle that are stolen. Although many people believe they will be covered, they often hear the words above when a vehicle burglary is reported to their insurance company. If you have home owner’s or renter’s insurance, there is a possibility items stolen from your vehicle could be covered, but you will still be responsible for paying the deductible. Now you have both the auto insurance deductible (if the vehicle was damaged, i.e. window broken out) AND the home owner’s deductible to pay.

If that item left in your vehicle was a purse, wallet or laptop, you are also in danger of having your identity stolen. Resolving identity theft can take many years and ruin your credit in the process. It only takes an extra minute to make sure you have taken all valuables with you when you leave the vehicle; it can take years and many dollars to repair the damage if they are stolen.

Safeguard Your Vehicle

The Mesa Police Department needs your help reducing vehicle-related crimes. Working together in a partnership with the community, we hope to minimize your chance of becoming a crime victim.

If you have a garage, always park your vehicle in it. Keep the garage door closed when not in use.
When parking anywhere else, keep your doors locked and windows rolled up at all times.
Please remove all valuables from your vehicle. If you can see ANY property left in plain view, so can a thief.
When out and about during evening hours, park in well lighted areas.
Do not leave the title in your vehicle. Keep the title at home or in another safe place, such as a bank deposit box.
Make the registration difficult to steal. Consider placing it in an uncommon location in the vehicle or carry it on your person, rather than leaving it in the vehicle.
Use a steering wheel lock.
Never leave your vehicle running unattended, even for a minute.

Thieves are looking for items that can be easily sold. Please take precautions and leave nothing of value in your vehicle, especially electronics (iPods, laptops, portable CD players, etc.), purses, wallets, cell phone, gym bags, or weapons. Write down and save the serial numbers of these items to give to police in the event they are stolen. If you have a digital camera, consider taking photos of the items and their serial numbers, then keep the prints, CD or other media with the photos in a safe location.

New Email System - Mesa Police Department Alert Network

Yesterday the Mesa Police Department revealed a new venue for you to stay aware of what is happening in your community and in the Superstition Division. With the inception of the Mesa Police Department Alert Network, you can receive emails or text messages on your cell phones to instantly update you about crimes, emergencies and other important information. The biggest benefit of the network is the way it makes two-way communication possible between law enforcement and the public. Anonymous tips via text messages or through the "web" come directly to the police department. This website is a secure website and is currently being used by other police agencies throughout the United States.

What does this mean to you? First of all, it does not mean that you will lose contact with me. I will still be at this email address for any questions and for the basic Neighborhood Watch information. However, it does mean that I will no longer issue emails for crime prevention tips or alerts through this email address. They will all be issued through the new system and for you to receive them you must register. The attached flyer contains the registration information.

Benefits to you:

You will know what is happening in Mesa or your particular community from anywhere in the United States at any given time, if you chose to be contacted by text message on your cell phone. If you only chose the email option, will make no difference where your computer is set up.
When you register, you have the option of receiving alerts from Mesa PD and/or only those in the Superstition Division. When you go to Watch groups page on The Superstition Home page, you can see that I have made difference categories for communities. Because of the amount of Neighborhood Watch groups that we have in the Active Adult Communities, I have made them their own Watch groups. By creating these groups, I can channel information that is relevant only for them into their watch groups.
Everyone in your neighborhood watch group can sign up and, as a captain, you will not have to forward it on to those with computers! Also, for those captains that are winter visitors, you can be sure your watch group is still getting the needed information while you are gone for the summer.

This new system is a learning curve for all of us. I hope you will sign up so that I can continue to provide timely and pertinent information to your community. If you have any questions or need assistance, let me know. I will try to help!

There have been several homeowner complaints of dogs off of their leashes in the park.

Residents who notice such violations are urged to call animal control at 602-506-PETS and report the offenders address.

Meeting Minutes April 2, 2009

Thank you to those who attended and participated in the annual election for the board of directors of La Fortina.

During the meeting a home owner questioned a violation about a tree in his front yard, the matter was resolved.
One homeowner has volunteered to help with activities.
A homeowner commented that board members are taking no action and board members need to be elected for the right reasons. No personal agendas should be allowed.
Another homeowner suggested that the board talk to community members during activities for the neighborhood.
Several neighbors suggested finding new landscapers. Landscaper’s contract is due soon.
One homeowner has been bothered by a neighbor with 2 big dogs running around in park with no leashes. She was told to give the information to the management company and animal control.
A homeowner suggested having a set of questions that need to be answered by board candidates for future elections. That will be discussed and arranged for next years election.
Another homeowner would like to see more homeowners involved in meetings and asked about CC&R violations (namely basketball hoops left out).
One homeowner wondered if homeowners are required to make their tenants aware of the CC&Rs and other community information upon renting out their home.

Keep Your Teen Safe and Crime Free This Summer

Every summer, Mesa’s youth take to the streets looking for something to do. Boredom busters are often found at shopping malls, parks, movie theaters, and other public locations. Youth often walk, ride their bikes, take buses and arrive in automobiles. Often, youth who are unsupervised do not use sound judgement or make good decisions as to their conduct. This misconduct often results in criminal behavior such as underage drinking, graffiti, criminal damage (this includes throwing eggs are homes, vehicles, etc.), trespassing, shoplifting and theft, or even more serious crimes.

The Mesa Police Department would like to offer the following tips to help keep your teen safe and crime free this summer.

Establish boundaries for your teen about when and where they can go in the neighborhood when you’re not there.
Curfew -- in Mesa, it is unlawful for a minor under age 16 to be out between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM, and for a minor between ages 16 and 18 to be out between the hours of Midnight and 5 AM, unless they are returning from a job or legitimate activity (school, church, etc.)
Arrange to pick up your teen promptly after their event or activity. Waiting allows the teen to get into trouble and loitering is not tolerated at most businesses.
Graffiti and tagging is a CRIME! Encourage your teens to be creative on paper or canvas, rather than walls, fences, signs, vehicles and buildings.
If your teen is driving, reinforce safe driving skills and to obey the speed limit.
If your teen is on a bicycle, they need to obey ALL traffic laws (the same as a vehicle) and have a white light on the front of the bicycle and a red light on the rear of the bicycle after dusk.
Many injuries and death occur when teens attempt to cross the street between lights. Direct your teen not to jaywalk. If caught jaywalking, they can be issued a citation.
Encourage your teen to avoid underage drinking. Beer theft from convenience stores is a popular method of obtaining alcohol for parties. This criminal behavior will ultimately be costly in court.
Shoplifting is usually committed after peer pressure from friends. Discuss with your teen that their choice of friends should not include those who encourage criminal behavior or activity.

The choices your teen makes and their judgment are ultimately your responsibility as the parent or guardian. Please take time to discuss making good choices with your child. Spending just a few minutes with them could make a difference between having a fun and safe summer or facing consequences for their criminal actions.

Communities Need to Pull Together

Now, more than ever, it is time for communities to pull together. Community associations are not like other organizations. They are much closer to home. They protect the integrity of our neighborhoods, making decisions that directly affect the quality of our life and the values of our homes, even in today’s troubled market. They provide homeowners the unique opportunity to influence the character of their communities. In a word, they represent democracy at its most local level.
As financial struggles begin to affect an ever-widening circle of Arizonans, it is crucial that we see ourselves as members of communities. If you are unhappy with your board, run for a seat. If you are too busy, get involved in some other way. It makes little sense to complain about your association if you do not attend and participate in meetings. Above all, remember that board members are neighbors, members of your community. And if you are a board member, remember that you were elected to serve the good of your community. You must act professionally and always in the best interest of those who elected you. Honor the trust your community has placed in you.

Meeting Minutes January 8, 2009

Hold gates open - The gates will not be held open due to concerns that the residents will be at a greater risk from thieves and vandals than now. A dummy camera was discussed as was fixing the call box at the front gate. Homeowners were also concerned that police officers did not know the gate code. Security cameras and more lighting will likely be placed at the front gate.

Pedestrian gate repair (back gate) - Some homeowners talked about making the gate inoperable and simply welding it shut. The pedestrian gate will be replaced with a stronger gate with stronger hinges and better locks.

Call box repair - The front call box will not be fixed until the vandals have been caught. All homeowners present at the meeting were unanimously in agreement.

Trash near mail boxes - We will be getting price quotes for a trash bin near the mailboxes. Please throw away your own garbage. Take your trash with you until there is a receptacle near the mailboxes for you to use.

Street lamps too dark - We are looking at having SRP change out the light bulbs in all of the street lamps to help brighten the neighborhood to help deter crime. Also, we ask all residents to turn on your front lights on your home to brighten the neighborhood. The more light on our streets throughout the dark hours, the less likely we will be hit with waves of crime in the evening like we have been.

Newsletters - In an effort to save more money, we will begin e-mailing newsletters to homeowners so please make sure that we have your e-mail address.

Vandalism - Please keep an eye out for vandalism and vandals. Let's try to keep our neighborhood clean, beautiful and crime free.

Neighborhood Watch/Crime in the area - We are STILL seeking volunteers for Neighborhood Watch. There has been a lot of crime in our neighborhood and we all need to work together to put an end to it. If you are interested in helping out please contact Preferred Communities.

Social committee/architectural committee - We are STILL looking for volunteers to help with these committees. Time spent is extremely minimal. The social committee is important for our neighborhood. Our social committee plans neighborhood activities where everyone is welcomed. These activities are a great way for you to get to know your neighbors. Did you know that graffiti/tagging is a crime?

Parents...did you know that YOU can be fined up to $10,000.00 if your child is caught committing a graffiti-related crime? Punishment for the person committing the crime may also include a fine of up to $1,000.00, loss of driving privileges and criminal restitution. Please talk to your children about the seriousness of this crime. Kids often do not think about the consequences that can follow when they do things like painting graffiti or tagging, or how it affects the person whose property they are damaging. They may not even be aware that it is a crime (criminal damage)! Please keep all paint locked up. Keep the lines of communication with your children open. If you witness anyone painting graffiti/tagging, please call the Mesa Police Department at (480) 644-2211 immediately.

Stranger Danger Alert!!!

We have received an ALERT from Skyline High School that they had an attempted student abduction this morning around 8:30 a.m. of a student walking alone near the school.

The perpetrator grabbed a student and tried to force the student into his car.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT: Hispanic or Asian male in 20’s driving a 4-door white sedan.

This is the third or fourth incident with this same suspect, who has heretofore targeted students walking alone and sexually harassed them, but this is, by far, the most serious incident.

Please alert your students regarding this matter and encourage them to walk in pairs.

If you hear of any incidents similar to this occurring in our area, please advise and we will forward to the police investigating this attempted abduction.

HOA Meeting

Please join us across the street from La Fortina at Skyline High School 6:00 pm on Thursday January 8th for our next meeting. We need you to attend. There are many important things to discuss including the vandalism of the gates and other property. We need homeowner participation to help make La Fortina a great place to live.

As many of you have noticed, the antenna to the front gate call box was (once again) stolen as was the antenna to the back gate and the front gate call box was vandalized again as well.

This vandalism is costing our community money. Each time this type of vandalism occurs, we are having to use our community funds to make these necessary repairs. If anyone has any information about any of these incidents, please call Preferred Communities at 480-649-2017. A police report has been filed.

Gate Painting

The North/back gate will be painted on Monday, November 3. As a result, that gate will not be operable during the day starting at 8:00 am. Please be patient and use the East/front gates to enter and exit the neighborhood.

The East/front gates will be painted on Tuesday, November 4. They will be open from 12:00 noon until 6:30 pm. The graffiti on the South exterior wall will be taken care of then as well.

La Fortina's 2nd Annual Fall Festival

Friday, October 31 at 5:00 p.m. we will hold our annual Fall Festival in La Fortina Park!

Come meet with neighbors and friends. You and your family will have a great time and get out just in time to take the kiddos Trick-or-treating.

Planned activities are as follows:

chili cook-off (with prizes for top 3)
bounce house for the kids
hay rides & snow cones
photo spot
music and fun

Contact Holly Trinnaman at 480-544-1858 if you have a booth or activity to share. We will also need volunteers to help set up and take down tables and chairs.

This activity was a blast last year and it should be again this year! You do not need to celebrate Halloween to join us. There will be something for everyone, so come, have fun and meet your neighbors!

Meeting Minutes October 2, 2008

Thank you to everyone who came and participated in last night's meeting.

Business:

Basketball Hoops - The board has decided that basketball hoops that are usable and in good repair may be left on the driveway or sideyard of your home. No longer do you have to put it away every evening when not in use. The hoops MUST BE in good repair to be left out.
Over Seeding - We discussed whether or not to over seed the grass in the park this fall. Some homeowners suggested the we have the park grass green in the cooler months and not in the hotter months because the park is not used as much in the summer months. However, due to the financial situation of the HOA as a result of the recent past and current foreclosures we have decided to not over seed the grass in the park this fall. It will save the HOA between $5,000 and $10,000 because the extra seed, water, and maintenance would not be necessary. Homeowners that decide not to over seed their yard will also not receive violation letters.
Park Lights - The light pole that was going to be installed in the park has been delayed as well as a result of the poor financials from foreclosures.
Playground Cover - We have received several quotes for a playground cover and as soon as we have the money available, it will be a priority.
Painting of Gates - The entrance and exit gates will be painted as well as the exterior walls will be repainted. We are seeking volunteers to help with these projects as they will be big projects. In order to save money for the HOA, we have decided to buy the paint and supplies and ask for volunteer help in order to get the work finished.
Graffiti - There have been several areas in the neighborhood that have been vandalized by graffiti and have been taken care of in a timely fashion by volunteers on the Board of Directors. If you notice vandalism of this kind or vandalism of any kind please contact Preferred Communities so we can get it taken care of right away. If there has been vandalism of your personal property, contact the Mesa Police.
Code of Conduct - We are looking at adopting a Member's Code of Conduct for Association Meetings.
Next Meeting Date - Our next meeting date has been set for Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 6:00 pm. Typically meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the Quarter; however, in January, the first Thursday is January 1st.

Homeowner Open Forum:

Speed bumps - The speed bumps are intended to slow drivers down and make it safer for children to play in our neighborhood. Some homeowners think the speed bumps are not necessary. The speed bumps were discussed during three different HOA meetings spanning 9 months before finally being approved in the third meeting. A couple speed bumps are high centering some smaller cars. One speed bump on Cerise backed up water into a yard when we had a major rain storm. Some homeowners would like to see the bumps lowered and smoothed out more. There are several people driving over the sidewalk to avoid the speed bumps. Several people are also "burning out" as they drive over the speed bumps. If you have any information regarding violators, please contact Preferred Communities. Fixable/Changeable issues will be looked into by the Board and the company who installed the speed bumps.
Parking - Parking is not allowed in the rock areas of our yards. Parking is allowed in our garages, on our driveways and on the streets without red Fire Lane curbing or near a fire hydrant. Driveways may be extended with concrete upon approval of Architectural Committee.
Activities - Our annual Fall Festival will be held in La Fortina Park the evening of Friday, October 31st before the Trick-or-Treating hours. Volunteers are needed for some activities and booths. Please check out the blog posting for the Fall Festival for more information. Movie in the Park will be held again this year in La Fortina Park the evening of Saturday, November 8th. Our neighborhood garage sale day will be held on Saturday, November 15th.
Dogs - Dogs must to be on a leash in any common area of the neighborhood, especially the park when others are present. Homeowners need to clean up after their pets as well, if your dog defecates in the park, common areas, or a neighbors yard please be courteous and clean up the mess. There have been several dogs running loose in the neighborhood, please make sure your dog is secured in your home or yard when you are not with them.
Keys - The keys that were left in the park months ago still have not been claimed. If you are missing a set of keys please send an e-mail to salcidofam@cox.net.
Gate Code - Some home owners have not been getting letters or e-mails with the new gate code included. The new gate code for the each Quarter will be included with your Quarterly HOA Assessment. The code has been changed for this Quarter, if you have not received your letter or e-mail, please contact Preferred Communities.
Front Gate - The instructions to enter the front gate are almost completely gone. The instructions will be reprinted and replaced on the call box.
Common Areas - Putting sidewalks in the common rocky areas of the neighborhood has been discussed. It has been placed on the Board's agenda and will be done when the money becomes available.

Volunteers Needed!

We are currently seeking volunteers for the Architectural Committee.

We are looking for at least two more volunteers for the committee. Duties are very minimal. You would need a valid e-mail address that you could check most days if not every day.

We need people who are willing to approve or disapprove architectural submittals that come in. Examples for approval requests are storage sheds, temporary and permanent patio covers, front yard landscaping changes or any other exterior architectural changes to your home.

Parking

Remember parking your vehicles in the red fire lanes or in front of a fire hydrant is illegal, not to mention dangerous.

Please, if you cannot park in your driveway or garage, do not park in the red fires lanes. Our streets are narrow and cars parked on both sides of the street make it more dangerous. Also, fire engines can not drive down our streets if cars are parked on both sides.

Your vehicle is subject to towing, at your expense, if you are parked in the red fire lanes.

*REMINDER*

Remember to slow down while driving over speed bumps to avoid unnecessary damage or maintenance to your vehicle. Please do not drive on the sidewalks to avoid the speed bumps. This creates a more dangerous situation for children and our neighbors than speeding alone.

There are many families with children in our neighborhood. Please take the time to slow down and watch for children.

They're at it again!

Thieves and vandals have been stealing and destroying things in La Fortina. Neighborhood property as well as personal property has been affected.

Please keep an eye out for any strange activity that you may notice, no matter how big or small. Get to know our neighbors and know whether or not someone should be at their home. Notice whether or not things are out of place in their yard or other surrounding areas.

Report any and all suspicious activity to the Mesa Police.

Call 9-1-1 if it is a life-threatening emergency or there is a crime in progress.
Call 644-2211 if it is not a life-threatening emergency, you need an officer, and to report suspicious activity. You would also call this number to file a police report, for example, if your car was broken in to or your property has been vandalized.
Call 644-2324 for general information or questions about the Mesa Police Department.

In addition to looking out for our neighbors, make sure your own home is safe and secure. Make sure you keep your doors and windows locked. Be sure to close your garage door, unless you are working in the garage. Put locks on your gates so criminals do not have easy access to your back yard.

The North/Back gate has been repaired. Thank you to Preferred Communities for getting it repaired so quickly! The gate is still powered down and in the LOCKED position, we hope to have the gate powered up later today after the gate company comes out to run some tests and diagnostics. We will keep you posted.

Both the East/Front gate and the North/Back gate will be painted within the next month. In order to save money the painting will be done by some of the HOA Board members. We hope you understand. We appreciate all of your patience with these matters. Thank you for making La Fortina a great place to live.

Gate Vandalism

The North/Back gate on Pueblo was vandalized. Due to the vandalism, the gate has been completely powered down and left in the LOCKED position. No one will be able to enter or exit through the gate until it is fixed.

The La Fortina Clean-Up Crew Needs YOU!

The upcoming Clean-Up Crew project is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th at 6:30 AM.

Volunteers will meet at the park ramada and will go to two homes in the community that need our help.
